We have history
On January 1, 1974 , Walt and Violet Exline purchased the original Raleigh Pizza on Austin Peay Highway. Being the engineer that he was, Mr. Exline couldn’t help noticing how things could be improved for the customers and his employees. Drawing from his vast experience in managing people in a manufacturing environment, Walt and Vi were determined to change the culture and provide an experience beyond everyone’s expectations! This began with his slogan “where quality has priority!" Walt and Vi explained this phrase goes beyond just our great product but is inclusive of all facets of Exlines! The Exlines’ quest for excellence has one basic goal: to meet or exceed the needs of our customers, our stockholders, and our employees. Over the next 30 years, the Exlines promoted their belief in achieving high ethical standards in operating their business, a competitive sense of urgency to deliver utmost customer service and product quality, and their belief that our people have the inherent desire and capacity to work effectively and independently to achieve success.
In addition to creating this culture in the restaurants, the Exlines also used their success in business to reach out and help the community. For many years, the Exlines’ sponsored youth academic and athletic programs. Many of these young men and women ended up working for Exlines’ in some capacity. They also supported many charities including the American Heart Association, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and the Salvation Army. Although many things have changed since January 1, 1974, Exlines’ Best Pizza in Town remains a Memphis tradition.
